On The Edge

Sydney's Broward Schools presentation went very well! If you care to watch it click here. She also reviewed the finished applications for the leadership questionaire while in Mexico and will go over it with Jasen and Kirsten after winter break. The meeting Syd held on Wednesday about adding a solar work day went well and everyone seemed to like it. However, Sydney asked Jasen and Kirsten to blog and they didn't. She also asked them to help her with past sponsors and they didn't complete that either. Jasen was also given the task of making a new membership list by Sydney, but that wasn't done either. 

Speech Time

Happy Monday! This week Syd is giving a speech on behalf of the Solar Knights at the Broward County School Board Meeting. Therefore, Monday she is practicing with Mrs. Henschel and Mrs. Cantlupe. On Tuesday is when she gives the speech. At Wednesdays meeting, Syd is going to bring up new ideas about the club for the rest of the year. Jasen will continue to clean up the Solar Knights google drive to help Sydney find all the list of past sponsors and Kirsten will add them to the document that Syd made. 

Almost Winter Break!!!!

This week has been extremely productive. Sydney and Dr. Culpepper worked together to update the Solar Knights part of the magnet website. The leadership questionnaire has had many responses that the executives have been reviewing. Sydney's communications seminar was an success and the new recruits are working with Sydney to start calls. Sydney Also updated the main Solar Knight's blog team member bio's. Jasen updated the documents to the new information for this year.     

Monday Funday

This week is full of PowerPoints! Kirsten and Jasen need to submit their powerpoints for Syd to review. Over the long weekend Syd finished up the new member leadership questionnaire. This will be presented at the club meeting on Wednesday. She is also going to create bio's for all the new members on the blog. Syd is working on a communications seminar on how to email and call potential and past sponsors. She will also be presenting this at the Wednesdays meeting. Jasen was given a list from Syd about all the things on the website/blog that need to be updated or change. They will work together to fix it this week.  

Tuesday is the new Friday

Well these two days were productive. Syd finally sent out the last plaque! Kirsten worked on her PowerPoint with Jasen. The whole executive team worked on the main solar blog. Syd and Jasen made an event book to help the team out next year. Syd also updated the Facebook. We were published in WISEbuys! Check out the link. Hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving! 

Plantation Holiday Parade

Happy Holidays...well almost. On Saturday, the Solar Knights participated in the Plantation Holiday Parade. This gave us an opportunity to show off our amazing car to the community. This week is only two days therefore today Jasen. Kirsten, and Syd plan on cleaning up from the parade and update the blogs. Also Syd plans on starting the next grant application and updating Facebook.   

Wrap up

Wow we had such a great week! Plantation Women's Club received our thank you's and the whole team had fun at Thermal Concepts on Wednesday. Sydney didn't get a chance to start the calling sponsors seminar but she did finish the leadership position list, wrote her speech and did her PowerPoint for the school board meeting she was attending, sent out Mrs. Krauss thank you, and did the picture board. She also worked with Matt to put together her senior project, and drew it up on SolidWorks.  Jasen, Kirsten, and Syd all worked together to get ready for the holiday parade. Jasen and Kirsten have there PowerPoints basically done. Jasen also worked on cleaning the solar car to make it parade ready. We also got the trailer and put the solar car on it to make sure it fit. Over all it was a great week, and SYD IS LEGAL! 

Happy Monday

Yay this week is Sydney's 18th birthday, which means we will be opening the coke can of doom. This week Syd plans on getting ready for the Holiday Parade, along with finishing up the leadership list and beginning a seminar on calling sponsors. Jasen will be working on getting our Flickr account hooked up with the blogs and website. In first hour Jasen and Kirsten plan on finishing up there powerpoints and get ready to meet with Jessie on Wednesday. 

Progress,Progress and more Progress!

Sydney finished the WiseBUYS article, the plaques have all been sent out and submitted the application for the FPL Grant. She also made the sponsor script and made the new leadership positions for this year. Syd also called about our team participating in the FGCU go kart challenge. In first hour, welding has begun. Kirsten and Jasen continued to clean up metal to be used for welding and Matt showed the class how to angle grind after welding. Jasen updated the Solar knights racing team blog and the website. 

Monday Funday

We have some exciting news to start this week off. FPL is renewing their sponsorship with us to help our team reach our goal of racing this year. This week Syd plans on sending the WiseBUYS article, finishing sending out plaques, and work on the FPL grant. If she has time she will work on the donors sheet for more sponsors. In first hour, Jasen and Kirsten finished cutting the bird cadge so now they are cleaning up the metal on the wire wheel. Jasen is also updating the website and blog this week. 

Christmas time already?

This week were continuing to grind the bird cage to use for welding. The first hour solar class is now in charge of creating power points for learning everything it takes to make a solar car and take it to Texas again. This week in first hour, Kirsten and Jasen have begun the use of a new schedule, starting with cleaning and computer work. Jasen and Sydney put up Christmas decorations all over the tech room  to get in the spirit! Sydney is also working on the WiseBUYS article with Ashley. She is also preparing a script to call the list of Broward county sponsors. 

Winter is Coming

This Monday is the start of fall and we can definitely feel it, with the temperature dropping we plan to huddle inside the tech room. Our goals this week is to finish grinding the bird cage, along with cleaning the rusty metal on it. Sydney is working with Kirsten on the marketing and leadership powerpoints along with starting working on grants. 

Happy Halloween!

BOOOO! Today is Halloween any many of us have got in the spirit by dressing up as Indiana Jones, Colorblind Waldo and the king of tools. This Wednesday our race mentor Josh brought his personal Quad copter and flew it above the school  and through the door of the tech room. We accomplished our goals this week as we sent our sponsor plaques, and organized the classroom with our new bins and toolboxes.

Getting it done

Syd's plans this week is making sure all the plaques get all sent out. Jasen swept the floor to get off the "no cookie list." Matt, Syd, and Jasen delivered the plaque to Marcus!! In first hour the main focus is organizing the whole week. Syd and Matt will also travel to Bombardier to deliver some more plaques. 

Pony Mail

This week Syd got all the pictures framed and sent out letters! The pedal on the Go Kart wasn't finished because of the huge delivery of all the new VEX Robotics parts and the welding lessons from Mr. Insel. Jasen and Kirsten unloaded all the parts from the truck. 

We hit 200 page views!

Hi everyone! Don't forget to friend our team on Facebook. We update it with important events on the go. This week is only a three day week for Syd. Therefore she plans on getting names of more people to send letters to, and hopefully get some sent out. She is waiting on team pictures. In first hour, Jasen and Kirsten had a welding lesson from Mr. Insel. This week they are planning on taking their welding skills and weld the pedal.  

Picture Perfect

Sydney started this week with updating the flyers and brochures. She took the inventory of what we need for the Holiday parade in the upcoming weeks. We also got an email back from our district school board member. The letters we sent out have been seen! Syd spoke with Mr. Collins and Mr. Reed about connections at the BB&T center and Dolphins Stadium and they said they would be willing to help. We delivered our first plaque to Mrs. Henschel our amazing principal, and also framed all the thank you pictures from the frames Matt and Syd got at Ikea. Matt and Syd also participated in the Izone meeting on Wednesday after school. The only thing that wasn't done is more letters because we were super busy this week. Jasen started fixing the sponsors on the solar blog as well as updating it. In first hour, Jasen and Kirsten practiced their welding skills. The pedal wasn't welded because they were practicing. The wiring is done expect they need a new fuse and two terminals.
